Components to Consider Adding to your e-Portfolio

Here are some of the basic components that you might want to consider adding to your e-portfolio as it evolves.

Personal Goals - What are your educational targets both long term and short term? Describe them as best you can. Perhaps these can be broken down into goals that relate to knowledge, skills or personal values.

Goal Statement - This is written in the same style used in cover letters when sending out a resume to a potential employer. This should focus on what skills you have to offer the company that would make an immediate
impact.

Resume - Although most companies you apply with will already have a paper-based resume, this does not mean that they have it in front of them when viewing your e-portfolio. (Professional Resume Preparation Online Workshop)

Bio - Include a short biography. Keep it professional.

Letters of recommendation or evaluation - In the job market, some companies want you to send them letters of recommendation yourself; while others want to receive letters directly from contacts you give them. It might be a good idea to have a letter of recommendation on your site, especially if you can get one from a credible individual that is known in the field. Please be sure to ask the permission of the writer to publish the recommendation online. Attestations are good corroboration of the evidence you provide.

Multimedia & images - Even though some individuals may not be able to view the multimedia, it can often help add emphasis to your evidence. Unless you are applying for a images/multimedia position somewhere, do not feel the need to jazz up your site's visual appeal.

Update Your e-Portfolio Often!

Your e-portfolio is a work in progress. As each semester comes and goes you will have acquired more and more evidence. You e-portfolio needs to grow and develop with these changes.

Your program of study or direction of inquiry within a major will change. This too should be reflected in your e-portfolio. The evidence that was captured from the featured e-portfolios that are included in the Gallery of this site are only "snapshots" capturing of a moment in time. We know that each of those e-portfolios are likely to change at any time!
